The New Year kicked off with President Obama highlighting manufacturing in the State of the Union Address and it hasn’t slowed down. New data suggests that these are the top five cities in the U.S. that are experiencing economic growth thanks to the manufacturing industry. The composites industry is contributing to the development in all five!
5. Grand Rapids, Michigan
Manufacturing contributed to 90.2 percent of the export growth in the Grand Rapids, Mich.,metropolitan area during 2010. Grand Rapids boasted one of the fastest growing export rates in the country from 2009-2010.
The metropolitan area is home to Magna International and American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA) member companies like wind manufacturer Energetx Composites, highlighted in President Obama’s State of the Union Address, 2012 ACE Winner Stiles Machinery and a recently acquired Arkema plant. Also in the area is Grand Rapids Community College, which hosts an 80-hour job training program to become a composite technician.
