What’s wrong with this picture? Upon first glance it appears as if an engineer popped a windmill on top of an electrical plug and put grass on the roof of the pay station. Well, in essence, they did. The Sanya Skypump, a 4 kW turbine developed by the New York Urban Green Energy (UGE), is being used as the lead source of energy for General Electric’s (GE) WattStation, an electrical vehicle charging dock, in Barcelona, Spain.

The Skypump can generate up to 40 amps of energy and connect to the energy grid to pull the additional energy as required to produce a 100 percent clean energy solution for electric vehicles. In case you’re upset that you can’t charge your vehicle with clean energy, don’t worry. UGE and GE expect to install Skypumps this year in various locations across the U.S.
