Car Buzz reports that with only five to be built, the Mercedes Benz Gran Turismo is about as rare as the people who can afford it. The 8-cylinder carbon fiber beauty will sport a custom exhaust, chrome paint job and a retractable rear spoiler. It will also get custom forged wheels by ADV.1. The carbon fiber material used for the car’s body will allow it to reduce the weight of the production SLS AM GT by 200 lbs, and interiors will be designed to customer specs.
Listed on the James Edition luxury marketplace, the Gran Turismo’s five units will be divided between the Middle East (2), Europe (2) and the US (1).
The original display model was shown by Mercedes at the LA and Tokyo auto shows, and while they were designed as static scale models, were not earmarked for production. But Jeff Halverson didn’t let that get in his way: he went along and built five of these video game super-cars. As three of them have already been sold, a Black Friday Walmart-style riot is expected to secure the last two orders.
