Christian von Koenigsegg keeps his viewers on edge with his Inside Koenigsegg series – available on YouTube. His latest video breaks down the ins and outs of creating carbon fiber composites wheels that lightweight and extremely strong.
Koenigsegg explains that the carbon fiber wheels are not only tougher than aluminum sets, which most high-performance cars use, but they’re nearly 40 percent lighter. A single wheel on the Koenigsegg One:1 supercar weighs just under 13.2 pounds.
Much like a Formula One high-performance vehicle, only the toughest pre-preg carbon fiber is used on the wheels. The only non-carbon fiber part is the tiny air valve.
