With the push of a button, the tail of the Samson Switchblade, a carbon fiber flying car, transforms from driving to flying mode in only two minutes.

The Switchblade is a three-wheel, street legal vehicle that can be driven from home to a nearby local airport. Once at the airport, the wings swing out and the tail extends in under three minutes. As a registered aircraft, the Switchblade can then be flown at up to 200 mph and 13,000 feet. Once the Switchblade lands, it’s simply transformed back to driving mode – the wings safely stowed and protected – and driven away.

What makes the Switchblade unique among flying cars, is that it retracts the wings and tail in a way that protects them while on the ground. The Switchblade is also a high-performance vehicle in both modes, in the air and on the ground.

The swinging wings were perfected, tested, and released two years ago, and now the folding tail is finished after extensive testing. “The folding tail creates an image like the Transformers, the Batmobile, and James Bond all rolled into one”, claims Sam Bousfield, designer of the Switchblade flying sports car. “When we saw it live for the first time, the visual impact was absolutely stunning.”

The reservation list for a Switchblade has reached 900, with Reservation Holders in 30 countries internationally, and in 47 of the 50 states in the U.S., The major benefit of a flying car is a huge time saving for both recreation and business travel. Martha Bousfield, Reservations Manager for Samson, sums it nicely up by saying, “People really like the idea of having the freedom and flexibility to drive or fly. How nice would it be to travel wherever you wanted, on your own schedule, and to actually enjoy the trip?”
