RS Electric Boats’ new electric Pulse58 rigid inflatable motorboat is designed and built with sustainable composite components.
RS Sailing’s sister company, RS Electric Boats, has a focus on sustainability and zero emissions. The company’s new Pulse58 electric rigid inflatable boat (RIB) is designed and built with sustainable composite components provided by NORCO, helping the company attain both of these goals.
Built with the highest level of sustainable construction in the RIB sector, the Pulse58’s hull design provides low-speed drag and a stable and maneuverable platform. The sustainable composite materials used in the construction of the boat are created from bio-based infused epoxy resin, recycled PET core material, and basalt and flax fiber. The material is strong, energy-absorbing, lightweight, and tough in even the most extreme environmental conditions.
Running on a 57Kwh battery bank stored in an underfloor structural case delivering up to 104v to the propulsion unit, the Pulse58 has a range of at least 35 nautical miles at its maximum speed of approximately 20 knots, a full day for standard RIB use.
Similar to the advance of electric cars in the automotive industry, the marine industry is beginning to search for alternative energy sources for cleaner engine emissions. John Smith, project engineer at RS Electric Boats, explained, “The Pulse58 is revolutionary due to its huge depth of technology and innovation, it defines a new genre of motorboats. Similar to electric cars, full electric drive requires a change of mindset and habits of use that match its capability. These small changes are key to protecting the future of our planet and continued enjoyment of boating in a sustainable way.”
In addition to the innovative design and construction of the Pulse58 in order to control emissions and use sustainable building materials, RS Electric Boats has partnered with Tree Aid to offset the carbon footprint and to ensure the entire build cycle process is carbon neutral.
