With a wet weight of only 1300kg, the Candela 7 is 45-50% lighter than a traditional glass fiber fossil fuel-powered boat.
With experience from fighter jet and traffic airplane design, as well as backgrounds in composites, foiling yachts and automotive engineering, the Candela team, based in Sweden, delivered a fully foiling carbon fiber hull and deck structure capable weighing only 240kg yet capable of supporting the 230kg battery pack for the Candela 7.
By utilizing Sicomin’s SR1710 infusion epoxy system for the hull and deck, Candela is assured of an epoxy that delivers in hot and wet conditions, critical a highly loaded foiling craft like the Candela 7. Now that the vessel is in series production, Sicomin is also supporting Candela’s targets to industrialize the production process. Teodor Hällestrand, product manager for Candela, commented,” Sicomin, with their DNV-GL* approved products and fantastic technical support, are the perfect fit for an innovative and evolving company like us.”
The Candela 7 is 7,7m in length, 2,4m in width and weighs only 1,300kg. The motorboat will attain a maximum speed of 30kn, with the most efficient speed being 19-23kn and a minimum foiling speed of 17kn. Because of the unique design of carbon fiber construction and hydrofoils, the motorboat is nearly silent.
